Berlin
Berlin Maryland is in northern Worcester County. Its founding dates back to the 1790s as part of the 300-acre Burley Plantation land grant of 1677. The town’s name is believed to be derived from a contraction of “Burleigh Inn”, a well-known tavern at the time.Berlin incorporated in 1868 and later became a popular rest stop for vacationers going to and from Ocean City Maryland as well as visitors coming to the Eastern Shore to hunt and fish. The 1980s began a period of downtown revitalization for both its commercial district and adjacent residential areas, eventually earning recognition as a “Main Street Community” by the State of Maryland. Many of the town’s 4500 residents and visitors alike take time to enjoy Berlin‘s clean and inviting downtown district to shop, attend festivals, music, and the arts. Berlin Maryland also holds the distinction of being the Coolest Small Town in America for 2014.
